5 out of 5 stars Should be required in all learning institutions   August 16, 2009

I have used the Diana Hacker books since entering graduate school years ago. As a late re-entry into higher education, I had been schooled in footnotes, etc. Using this books kept me aware of the revised requirements for citation and formatting.

Unfortunately, many institutions of higher learning buy reference guides that are packaged with a textbook. They are very often outdated or difficult to use.

I refer my students to Hacker's website, and provide my copy for student use in the classroom.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for teachers   December 23, 2009

Hacker's 2009 Style Manual is a must have for teachers; especially for English teachers who will teach paper writing. This book covers everything from how to write MLA, CMS, and APA papers along with how to write introductions, thesis statements, body paragraphs, parenthetical (in-text) documentations, and conclude with works cited pages. I know as a teacher if I could buy a copy for every single one of my students, I would. They are writing papers for my Freshmen class (High School) and each of the presentations I am doing on each part of the paper, I have referenced this book.

A Writer's Reference is the best reference book ever! I am amazed at the amount of information contained in it. I especially like the format and the concise explanations within each categories. It is my "go to" book and is the best reference book I've ever purchased.

5 out of 5 stars supreme substance: poopy paper   February 19, 2010
Matthew Mcelhinney (Florida)
The content in this book deserves five stars; however, the paper she uses makes annotating very difficult. Nonetheless, Hacker opened my eyes to a world of devices that I will use in my writing for the rest of my life.
